We left Santa Fe early in the morning and took a scenic route while heading to Sedona AZ. The Turquoise trail is only a little longer than heading out on the highway and it provides beautiful views and goes right through Madrid NM. Our next stop was for pictures and shopping at The Continental Divide.
We greeted right away at the Sedona Real Inn. We were given our two rooms, a pet bowl, leash, and treats. The new manager was very friendly and very honest about the new changes. I had previously inquired about my allergies and breakfast at the hotel (included in room rate) and received a not so nice response. That individual is no longer with the property and the manager was willing to work with the staff for my allergies.
Our rooms were on the first floor and were spacious, very clean, and nicely decorated. The gated picnic, fire pit, and pet area are really nice and was perfect for our stay. We never had breakfast at the hotel. We went one morning and unfortunately the breakfast area is small and was beyond crowded with people (looked like part of a bus tour) and the room was stuffy. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.
For dinner we drove across the way to the Barking Frog Grille. We were seated on their pet friendly patio right away. The patio is lovely and the restaurant does have heaters for chilly evenings. Unfortunately a waitress accidentally walked into one of the heaters and spilled glasses everywhere. The broken glass was cleaned up right away but we did have to be careful with Fred.
To start our meal we ordered 2 sangria's, a margarita, a beer, and chips and salsa. Our ordered arrived and there was an addition of guacamole (we didn't ask for this - more on this later in the review). For entrees we ordered the pork belly taco's, brisket tacos, hanger steak, and fish tacos. Everything was delicious and pleasing to the eye. My pork belly tacos were dairy free and gluten free however they neglected to remove cheese from the beans on the side.
When we received our bill we saw that there were charges for 2 not 1 margarita and $9.99 for the guacamole. We spoke to Shannon and explained we were fine with paying this as the guacamole was eaten but that we weren't too happy with this practice. Shannon removed the drink, the chips and salsa, and took 10% off of our bill. I thought this was a very nice touch.
